Slot Volatility Explained: Low, Medium and High
Volatility (or variance) describes how a slot distributes its payouts. Low volatility pays often and small; high volatility pays rarely, but with a real shot at a multiplied bet. Neither is “better” — they are different products for different moods and bankrolls.
The practical consequences: hit frequency, win size and the size of the swings your balance takes. A high-volatility game can burn through a hundred spins without a single feature and then pay it all back in one bonus round. If that sounds stressful rather than exciting, medium and low volatility give you longer sessions per bankroll unit.
A rough rule of thumb: with the same bankroll, low-volatility games let you bet relatively larger per spin; high-volatility games ask for smaller bets and more patience. The volatility of every game in our library is on its page — you can also jump straight to high volatility slots or low volatility slots.
When we build a game, volatility is a design choice, not an accident: it is decided before the first symbol is drawn, because it dictates the win table, the bonus frequency and even the animation budget for big wins.
